What are Sexually Transmitted Infections?

Sexually Transmitted Infections, also known as STIs, is a virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite that are most commonly passed through sexual contact, including, vaginal, anal and oral sex. Some STIs can also be spread through intimate skin-to-skin contact, bodily fluids(blood, semen, vaginal fluids), or from parent to child during pregnancy or birth.

Many STIs do not have symptoms or cause symptoms right away which means that people may not know they have one. Without testing and treatment, some STIs can lead to serious long-term health problems. The good news is that many are preventable, treatable and manageble with proper care and medication.

The three STIs we will be covering in this page are HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C.
